Daily Science Report for 6 August 2022
Location: Underway to Cape Town, South Africa
Science Update: The ship completed 218 nmi for a total of 1764 nmi of the 1816 nmi voyage to Cape Town. The ship is expected to dock in Cape Town at 1000 h on 7 August. The science party finalized the Site U1560 reports and met for an expedition wrap-up meeting.

Science Update: The ship completed 182 nmi for a total of 1546 nmi of the 1816 nmi voyage to Cape Town. The speed of the voyage so far, 11.1 kt, was faster than anticipated and would lead to an early arrival at Cape Town. So, from 1200 to 1730 h the ship slowed, and the rig floor crew broke down 32 stands of pipe and laid out the single joints on the riser hatch, to make a start on the portcall activity of replacing the old drill pipe with new drill pipe. The science party continued writing expedition reports.

Science Update: The ship completed 248 nmi for a total of 1107 nmi of the 1816 nmi voyage to Cape Town. The science party continued to write reports and make final thin section descriptions, and they met to present and discuss the results from the Site U1560 sediment cores. Scientists gave a tour of the Core Laboratory for Entier staff and showed highlight cores from the expedition.

Science Update: The ship completed 287 nmi for a total of 859 nmi of the 1816 nmi voyage to Cape Town. The science party continued to write reports and make final geochemical analyses and thin section descriptions, and they met to discuss postexpedition research on the basement rocks from the transect. Scientists gave two tours of the Core Laboratory for rig floor and Entier staff and showed highlight cores from the expedition.
